Me in long form:
I’ve loved fiction since I was in sixth grade and wrote a fourteen-page hamster saga about Hamey I, Hamey II and Hamey III. It needs some editing.
I decided the hamster saga was a practice novel, and I started working on other things. Namely getting an education. I earned an English Lit degree from the University of Illinois and a law degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law. After moving to Colorado and passing the bar, I practiced for a short time and ultimately decided--meh. So I became a high school English teacher instead. I loved it. Right up until I got non renewed due to budget cuts. But this isn’t a sad story because that was exactly the opportunity I needed to get me to write my first novel since the hamster saga.
I wrote a YA vampire novel. Smart, eh? But it wasn’t so much about the vampire stuff as it was about the characters for me. So after writing a third novel, I went back to that second one and dropped the characters into a dystopian world. The shinier and now vampireless novel, Protected, is being edited and will hopefully be queried before the end of the year.
I have a variety of other projects in various stages, as most writers do. But the ones that attempt to take my focus away from Protected are a YA Historical Fiction based in Ancient Rome and another YA novel, Gone, about a boy who doesn’t exist.
